GODPARENT PROGRAM

Our organization arranges school sponsorships for children and young people in Tanzania who lack access to reliable education due to social or financial circumstances. Our goal is to work with local partners to facilitate long-term educational pathways – structured, transparent, and tailored to individual local needs.

WHY DO WE PROVIDE SPONSORSHIPS?

Despite compulsory schooling, access to education in Tanzania is not guaranteed for all children, as public schools often reach their capacity and quality limits. Private schools often offer better learning conditions but are financially out of reach for many families.

The children we propose for sponsorship together with our Tanzanian partner organizations either live in the Fruitful Orphanage, the Blessed Orphanage, or come from families who cannot cover the costs of education themselves.

Sponsorships enable these children to:

  • access to reliable schooling,

  • a continuous learning path in a stable environment,

  • and fair opportunities for a self-determined future.

The goal is not a one-sided support relationship, but rather a collaborative partnership that strengthens local initiatives and promotes sustainable development.

How a sponsorship works

Selecting a child
After consulting with our team in Tanzania, we select suitable children. The selection process is transparent and based on clear social criteria.

Registration and equipment
The local partner organizations are responsible for enrollment and the procurement of school uniforms, materials and – if necessary – transportation.

Continuous support
Sponsors regularly receive insights into everyday school life: photos, report cards, and reports. The children are also informed about the sponsorship in an age-appropriate manner.

Long-term perspective
A sponsorship should ideally last for several years. It accompanies the child through important educational phases – with reliability and patience.

Donation receipts
For your support, you will of course receive an official donation receipt, which you can use for tax purposes.

The Education System in Tanzania

Tanzania's education system is strongly influenced by its colonial past. During the colonial period, education was primarily geared toward the interests of the colonial powers and a small elite, severely limiting access for the majority of the local population.

After independence in 1961, President Julius Nyerere implemented comprehensive reforms, making primary education compulsory and promoting the expansion of public schools to make education accessible to all. Despite this progress, challenges remain, particularly regarding the quality of public schools and equal opportunities.

Structure of the Tanzanian School System

The school system is based on the British model and usually begins at around the age of three. Despite the expansion of state educational institutions, challenges remain regarding equipment, quality, and equal access.

Core Values of our Work

Equal opportunities

All children should have equal opportunities regardless of gender, age or physical appearance.

Needs orientation

Each sponsorship is tailored to the individual context of the child and his or her family.

Barrier removal

We want to reduce structural barriers without creating new dependencies

Relationship at eye level

The connection between child, family, sponsor and team is respectful, open and equal.

Local responsibility

Decisions are made jointly with our local partners. They know the circumstances, needs, and challenges best.
